What is Global Gap Year?

Basically the Global Gap Year is Church Army's Mission Training Course that prepares you for a short term mission experience overseas.

The Course is aimed at young people 18-20 something (you need to be at least 18) and the object is to develop you in Christ and train you in Mission, so that you are able to serve on an existing mission base somewhere on the cutting edge of God's Kingdom.

Global Gap Year has three phases: the School, the Mission and the Debrief.

 The School

The School is a 13 week residential course aimed at helping you learn more about Yourself, the Kingdom of God, and Mission.

You'll live together with 6-10 other young people in a school/community-house scenario. We will teach you how to know God better and to share your faith with others as well.  We will also prepare you for the mission you are about to go on.

On the School there are assignments, field trips and the odd book to read.  It's not highly academic stuff, but enough to help you really think and grow in Christ and be ready to do the practical things of mission.  Living together in community is a BIG part of Gap and is  also an excellent way to help you prepare for the very different experience you are about to begin.

The Mission (6 months)

While in the school phase we help you decide which Church Army Base you feel called to go to. There are orphanages, church plants, rehab ministries, ministries with indigenous peoples, cafe churches, and many more opportunities all around the world that you can be apart of. You will be put under teams of experienced evangelists who have exciting ministries already happening where they are.  You'll catch and be a part of what they are doing as you step out in the calling and giftings God has given you.  Jamaica, UK, Canada, Australia, and even Africa are just some of the places other Gappers have gone to. The Mission phase lasts 6 months.

 The Debrief (two weeks)

You then return home to NZ for a two-week debrief period. This gives you a chance to talk with us and your old Gap room-mates about all the things God has done in and through you. It's a chance to catch your breath and make sense of it all,  and is a great time to pray about what you feel God is calling you to do next.

 $$ COSTS

The cost is approx is $4000 (this covers training, food and accommodation) for the School phase and you then need to add to that your flight costs to your mission location. The Costs of your room and board while you are overseas are usually provided for by the Base, though a little spending money is wise.

Global Gap Year in New Zealand has been running for one year, has been going for five years in Australia (where it originated) and three years in the UK.
